Privacy Policy

Last updated — May 2026

This auction site (auction.davesharp.art) is run by Dave Sharp (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you register and bid, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

Information we collect

When you register to bid — your name, your email address, and your phone number if you choose to give it (it is optional).

Email verification — we email you a one-time code to confirm the email address is yours.

Your bids — every bid you place is recorded against you, with its amount and the time it was placed.

A sign-in cookie — once your email is verified we set a single cookie (auction_session) so the site remembers you are signed in on that device. It is essential to bidding, lasts up to 14 days, and is not used for tracking. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies of any kind.

Technical logs — our host, Cloudflare, records standard technical data for every visit (IP address, browser, timestamps) to operate and secure the site.

Fonts — the site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which shares your IP address with Google to deliver them.

How we use it

We use this information only to run the auction:

We do not use your details for marketing, and we do not sell or rent them.

Legal basis

We process your information to take steps you have asked for and to perform the contract of sale if you win (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)), and to keep the auction secure (our legitimate interests).

Who we share it with

Your information is only shared with the services that run the auction:

Each handles your data only on our instructions. We may also disclose information where the law requires it. If you win, your details are used to complete the sale and may be shared with a courier to deliver the painting.

How long we keep it

If you register but do not win, your details are deleted once the auction has concluded. If you win, we keep your details for as long as needed to complete the sale and to meet our legal and accounting obligations, after which they are deleted.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, or to restrict or object to how we use it. To do any of these, email auction@davesharp.art. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always the one published here, with the date shown above.
